It has been a lovely Christmas with the family!! We all had a lovely time together throughout the past week and each received some nice gifts. I have come to the conclusion in the past year or so that my favorite part of Christmas is the week leading up to it but not the 25th exactly. I find the 25th to be the beginning of the "big let down" or the sad feeling of the holiday coming to a close.
As tradition dictates, my family and I attended the early Christmas Eve service last night. The church was packed so we sat with another family in the boxed seating. (The church has odd seating in that there are boxed areas of seats.) Anyway, the sermon was about letting go of fear /concern and not constantly carrying it with us. The service as a whole was very nice and I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful sunset as we left the church.
Lastly, before Christmas break began, the mother of the baby I care for surprised me with three Christmas gifts. One gift was from the two older girls which was an arsty type (almost Irish-like) pendant necklace. The girls picked it out and said that it was "funky like Ms. Megan" as their Mom later told me. The other was a bracelet that little pumpkin picked and was very nice. I was quite tickled and touched by the kiddos' gifts and have worn the necklace frequently. (The bracelet is more dressy so I can't wear it as an everyday item.)
I hope everybody had a very Merry Christmas and has enjoyed this wonderful time of the year! : )

Lil' Pumpkin
A little over three weeks ago I applied, interviewed, and was hired as a "Nanny" for a private family in Easton. I care for their 17 month old little girl during the week from 7-3. I couldn't have asked for a sweeter child nor a nicer family!!
I certainly did not set out (originally) to obtain this position. I am a product of what they are now calling the "Forgotten Generation" or those 20 somethings who are college educated with a Master's degree and cannot obtain jobs due to current economic woes. Before obtaining this postion, I had put in over 100 applications for teaching positions and government jobs. I have not heard a single word about any of those positions and learned that one of the school counties had over 43,000 applicants (yes, 43,000!). I know of two other young ladies in my position who hold all the proper credentails in Education but have turned to Nannying during this period of time.
Some say this child is blessed to have me, but I think I am more blessed to have her! Children aren't for the faint of heart and my love only grows deeper for them!

Priceless
Last weekend, we went to Cape May, NJ to visit with my Grandfather and his girlfriend. While we were there we also celebrated my grandfather's birthday. He turned 92 this year and is still going strong. The weather was cold and rainy so there isn't a lot to share. We did do some shopping and had a lovely time together.
My grandfather refers to the three of us- his girlfriend, my mom, and I as the "brat pack." Mainly because at some point he has jokingly (or not) referred to us as brats and as a pack we are a force to be reckoned with. So, before the three of us left Cape May last Sunday, we left a small momento...Enjoy!

The Day I Will Never Forget...
Where were you on September 11, 2001?
I was a senior in high school. I was sitting in my Anatomy & Phisiology class when the computer teacher came in and said that an unidentified plane had hit the World Trade Center. From that point on, all of the school radios were on and everybody was listening to the horrifying reports until we were sent home early.
I got up early this morning so I could watch the documentary "102 Minutes that Changed American History." Every time I watch the documentaries on September 11th, I always sit in disbelief and sadness for all those who were affected by this horrible tragedy. Two commericals really touched my heart this morning so I thought I would share them with you.

United We Stand!! Remembering and praying for all of those affected by this horrible tragedy! God bless everyone!

First Taste of Fall
We had our first taste of fall today! It was a damp and dark day with a swift, cool breeze. Have I told you how much I LOVE fall? It is my favorite season of the year with spring as a close second and winter rounding out the top three.
When I think of fall, I smile and think of...
-pumpkins
-hoodies
-football season (Hell Yes!)
-hot coffee & vanilla lattes
-cool nights spent under warm covers
-leaves on trees turning colors (reds, yellows, oranges)
-Emory & Henry/ Homecoming
-family get-togethers
-long walks along the waterfront
-a fresh breath of air after a hot, sticky summer
-clear, starry nights
-comfy pair of jeans
-the geese flying south in formation
-friends

All-Around
I am an avid USA gymnastics follower and have been for quite some time. As a child, I always envisioned myself making the national team and then going on to the olympics. I did take gymnastics for a short period of time as a young child but developed a fear of heights which made the beam almost impossible (sweaty palms, shaky legs, inability to really even move). So, today, I vicariously live through different favorite gymnasts as they win lots of national/ olympic medals.
In the sport of female gymnastics, you have four events to compete on- bars, beam, floor, and vault. Most gymnasts are all-arounders who compete on all four events but some gymnasts especially these days are specialists (compete only on one or two events). These gymnasts may be able to compete on all four events but tend to excel at one or two events.
That being said, I have begun to think about teaching in that respect. I LOVE working with children and I LOVE teaching!! As an all around teacher or an elementary general education teacher I have done very well and am very capable of fulfilling the duties well. I have found though, that I am extremely passionate about teaching Math and Reading/Language Arts, so I am slowly approaching the crossroads of perhaps becoming a Math or Reading Specialist. It wouldn't take much more education as I have already done most of the legwork and have already obtained my M.Ed.
Only time will tell...

Randomness
Random Factoid: A year ago today, I was in Aruba vacationing with my family!
I learned recently that one of my students from last year was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The tumor is in-operable as it is sitting against the optic nerve and affecting his vision. It is a low-grade form of cancer that will eventually go dormant. The prognosis is good but the current situation is absolutely horrible. This student is such a trooper having to go through chemotheraphy and all of these different things but still seems to be holding his head high. Unfortunately, the doctors don't know if he will have to have chemo for one year or if it will have to be longer. It all depends upon how much the tumor shrinks! I am hoping to go visit him soon and keep him & family in my prayers daily! I can't imagine having to be a parent going through that...
This weekend we hosted a young couple who was participated in the annual triathalon that came to Cambridge. Apparently, the event had over 2,000 participants this year inluding some professional athlete types who have won on bigger stages. This event is one of many held as a qaulifier for the Iron Man which is held down in Hawaii sometime later this year. The athletes swim 1.2 miles, bike 50 miles, and run 13 miles before it is all said and done. To all of this, I say- You couldn't pay me to participate! I am NOT a nature girl by any means!
Yesterday, we spent the better part of three hours (no thanks, to the beach traffic!) in the car to go 74 miles to my Grandfather's house. He had his annual summer (formal) get-together with all kinds of foods and lots of people. This year he also recognized the summer birthdays and the fact that my M.Ed is finally complete. It was a nice time as always!
Today was the official kick-off of my online classes (Geography & Microeconomics) and it is going to be busy! I think my bigger problem is going to be staying motivated...haha.
