Randomness

Random Factoid: A year ago today, I was in Aruba vacationing with my family!

I learned recently that one of my students from last year was diagnosed with a brain tumor.  The tumor is in-operable as it is sitting against the optic nerve and affecting his vision.  It is a low-grade form of cancer that will eventually go dormant.  The prognosis is good but the current situation is absolutely horrible.  This student is such a trooper having to go through chemotheraphy and all of these different things but still seems to be holding his head high.  Unfortunately, the doctors don't know if he will have to have chemo for one year or if it will have to be longer.  It all depends upon how much the tumor shrinks!  I am hoping to go visit him soon and keep him & family in my prayers daily!  I can't imagine having to be a parent going through that...

This weekend we hosted a young couple who was participated in the annual triathalon that came to Cambridge.  Apparently, the event had over 2,000 participants this year inluding some professional athlete types who have won on bigger stages.  This event is one of many held as a qaulifier for the Iron Man which is held down in Hawaii sometime later this year.  The athletes swim 1.2 miles, bike 50 miles, and run 13 miles before it is all said and done.  To all of this, I say-  You couldn't pay me to participate!  I am NOT a nature girl by any means!

Yesterday, we spent the better part of three hours (no thanks, to the beach traffic!) in the car to go 74 miles to my Grandfather's house.  He had his annual summer (formal) get-together with all kinds of foods and lots of people.  This year he also recognized the summer birthdays and the fact that my M.Ed is finally complete.  It was a nice time as always!

Today was the official kick-off of my online classes (Geography & Microeconomics) and it is going to be busy! I think my bigger problem is going to be staying motivated...haha.

Winds of Change

It was finally time to say goodbye to not only LiveJournal itself but my old blog.  I have been considering it for some time and finally felt the push when the site started acting up frequently.  Also, I just wanted a fresh, clean start as I have with so many things in my life in the past few months.

It has been a busy past month.  My family and I travelled to Michigan in May to visit with my Dad's family.  I love seeing them and spending time with ALL of them.  It was also great because I got to see my Dad after his stroke and got the reassurance from just seeing him that he is doing A-OK.  Thank goodness!  We all had a lovely time!!

The job hunt continues (guh!) but I feel positive that something will break for this coming school year.  I have everything going for me and am even increasing my education this summer with two more classes (these are required in the state of VA). Geography and Economics- the latter of which might be problemmatic just from my small jaunt through the text last night.  Both of the courses are online, so I won't have to travel nor will I have to sit in the classroom which I am pleased about.

I also had the opportunity to spend about a week with a very close friend.  We had a great time together doing what we have always done and will always do- play nintendo.  I believe we also found time to drink coffee, eat fat food, walk, talk, and sleep. haha.

It felt good and made me realize how much I enjoy being single in a good way.  I can do what I want, when I want, and how I want too!  Enough said.

Well, that's enough for now...have a good night!
